Today, June 24, we celebrate #NationalRelationshipEqualityDay!
You know how some of the earliest stories we hear are fairytales that often paint a picture of relationships with a knight in shining armor rescuing a damsel in distress! Or the strong, silent type gets together and fixed or healed by the stunning nurturing homemaker. But these stereotypes are outdated and frankly, harmful.
<3 Healthy, fulfilling relationships come in all shapes and sizes, across genders and sexual orientations.
Traditional gender roles restrict and create unnecessary pressure. Imagine a same-sex couple where one partner loves cooking while the other thrives on fixing things around the house. Who cares who does what? The key is to focus on each other’s strengths and create a partnership that works for **you**.
Breaking gender roles allows for a more equitable and respectful dynamic.
Partners can share household chores, childcare responsibilities, and emotional labor based on their preferences and abilities. This should be a part of your open communication which will go miles towards fosters a deeper connection and allows both partners to feel valued and supported.
This applies to all types of couples, #throuples, etc… – whoever you love, the most important thing is creating a partnership based on mutual respect and open communication.
So… What are you waiting for? Rewrite Your Story!!
Let go of outdated expectations and embrace the unique dynamic of each of your relationships – you WILL develop a more fulfilling and authentic connection.
So ditch the script, rewrite your own love story, and create a partnership that thrives on equality and open communication. After all, love is love, and strong relationships are built on mutual respect, not pre-defined roles.
